Decorating wedding candles with decorative pins and ribbons is an excellent way to tie in your wedding theme by color, season, or holiday with an affordable and unique technique. It can be used as a wedding favor, bridal gift or to decorate a unity candle.
Preparation Tips
This technique is fairly easy and you should be able to master it quickly. Practicing with votive candles is the cheapest way to learn.
Materials Needed
All materials can be found at your local craft, or online.
• A candle: anything larger than a votive candle, and any color
• Ribbons: Any width, color, and finish (matte or glossy)
• Embellishments: Thank you tags, heart pendants, crystals, or broaches
• Decorative pins: pearl headed corsage pins
• Metal pins: straight pins with flat head
• 3 Bowls (One for decorative pin, one for metal pins, and one for cut pieces of the pin)
• Scissors
• Iron
• Double sided tape or glue
Instructions
1. Measure the ribbon so there is enough to be able to go around the whole candle and overlap. Cut at the point where it overlaps about 1″. At one end fold the ribbon over and iron it to give it a nice crease.
2. Cut about 5 of each of the pins so that there is about 1/2″ of the pin left.
3. Take one end of the ribbon and position it on the candle where you want it to be. You may want it on the top or the bottome part of the candle.
4. Affix the ribbon with the flat metal pin, with glue or double sided tape: whichever you prefer.
*TIP The video urges you use the flat metal pin because it allows you to pull the ribbon tight without it moving. The cons to glue needs to dry before you can move onto the next step and may show through the ribbon or look clumpy. The cons to double sided is that it may not not adhere to the candle when you are wrapping the ribbon around the candle.
5.Wrap the remaining ribbon around the candle and fasten it to the candle with the decorative pins. You can use as many pins as you want.
6. Continue to decorate you candles with ribbons or embelishments.
